Matched by Ally Condie

Summary:
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her, so when Xander appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows he is her ideal mate--until Ky Markham's face appears for an instant before the screen fades to black.

Review:
Little by little, Cassia discovers the ugly truth behind her carefully constructed world and the cost of her “perfect” life. The more she learns, the more she realizes that her choices have a bigger impact than the ones that are made for her. The story will keep you guessing and questioning the Society’s motives until the end. Watch as Cassia’s world crumbles around her, including the ones she loves. Will she be too late to save them?

From the enticing cover to its entrancing story line, Condie’s first volume in a series will grab a hold of you from the first page. It is great for those who loved the action and tension behind the Hunger Games trilogy. As well as, those who loved the romance and love triangle of the Twilight saga.

This is a very fast and easy read! A great blend of dystopian fiction with a romantic twist. I couldn’t put this one down. I was only disappointed to discover that the book’s ending was not the end. Now I have to impatiently wait for the next installment ;-)

Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

Summary:
Angelfire tells the story of 17 year old Ellie, whose life is filled with the usual: family, friends, and school. Nothing is out of the ordinary until she meets the mysterious Will. It turns out that he knows why she has so many nightmares, which are actually memories of her past lives. She is the Preliator, a powerful being meant to fight vile reapers who aim to kill people and steal their souls. Ellie’s soul has come back over and over for hundreds of years always with the same mission; to fight evil. Will is her Guardian, he is an immortal who fights along side her and waits for her soul to be reborn after each time she is killed. When Will finds her and awakens her spirit he knows this cycle is different from all the others. It took twice as long for Ellie to come back this time. She cannot remember who she is or anything from her past, not even him. Ellie struggles to discover more about her purpose and to defeat her enemies all while trying to figure out how Will fits into her life. Why does she feel such strong feelings for him when he just pulls back every time they get too close?

Review:
Ellie’s character is brave both in fighting and in going after what she wants. Her in-your-face attitude never fails to liven up the chapters. It was refreshing to see such a strong heroine and the world-building sets up this series really well. Moulton’s fast paced, action packed book is an amazing read and the next one can’t come fast enough.

Ok, there is no way to review this book without giving away huge SPOILERS from Hourglass. So, if you are not up to date with the Evernight series do not look down!

As expected, he freaks when he wakes up but then he sees that Bianca is not gone. He accepts his fate when he realizes that they can still be together. Throughout this whole book Lucas really stands out as a tried and true hero. He stays strong for Bianca and even Balthazar comes to admire and respect him.
The whole gang heads back to Evernight so that Lucas can learn to deal with what his new life will be like. He and Bianca are content to be together but they each have to adjust to how their relationship has evolved. While back at the school they begin to investigate why Mrs. Bethany has been luring the wraiths to her. There are some startling answers to the mysteries set up throughout this series.

Review:
Gray has developed a painstakingly intense love story that overcomes even the tallest obstacles. The unexpected plot twists which are her signature mark really are the most enjoyable parts of the final book in the Evernight series. I was pleasantly surprised on more than one occasion and the ending was especially gratifying.

Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

Summary:
Patch has been assigned as Nora's guardian angel. He's not necessarily thrilled with his new status but he cares for Nora and wants to protect her. She has fallen head over heels in love with him and she is ready to tell him. We can all remember the first time we told someone that we love them. The fear and insecurity of the feeling not being mutual is terrifying, but for Nora it is much more than that because she is responsible for what Patch has become. So, when she finally tells him those three little words, and he bolts without any response or explanation, she is devastated. Patch has his reasons for holding back but there is no way to tell Nora without putting her in more danger.

While dealing with her broken heart, Nora starts seeing a ghost from her past and begins to question how her father really died. Nora wants to know who killed him and who has been manipulating her, but will the answer break her heart into a million more little pieces? Nora learns the hard way that the people closest to us, the ones we trust the most, are the people who can shatter us the easiest.

Review:
From page one; you know this book is going to be better than good, better than great even! Fitzpatrick has written one of those rare books where the second of the series is better than the first. Crescendo pulls you into the shadowy world of fallen angels, and like being in an eerie haunted house on a stormy night, the tone of this follow-up to Hush, Hush is dark and chilling.

She tries to protect her pack and to give in to Ren but she cannot ignore her heart. She loves Shay, the mysterious new guy who has just happened into her world, or has he? Could he be the key to all the secrets that the Keepers have been hiding from the wolves?

Review:
Cremer has a strong and honest character in Calla. She isn't afraid to admit that she struggles with her decisions. In the end, she stays true to herself. This is the beginning of an intriguing new series, and many questions are left unanswered so we will definitely be looking forward to the next book.

My Soul to Steal by Rachel Vincent

Summary:
Kaylee is a bean sidhe. As in, she is a full fledged being that screams for the souls of the dead. When Kaylee sees dark shadows fall across someone and a wail builds in her throat, she knows that person is going to die. Yeah, her life is complicated and far from normal but she has a loyal best friend, a sort-of boyfriend, and her recently returned father to help her deal with it all.
Set in Dallas and an alternate reality called the Netherworld, Kaylee seems to find death and danger around every corner. While Kaylee is trying to solve the latest round of murders at her school, Nash's ex-girlfriend shows up on a mission to win him back. Talk about a nightmare, literally! Kaylee and Sabine square off and things get heated as they each fight for Nash's affection.

Review:
Kaylee does a lot of her own soul searching in this fourth book and Vincent writes genuinely about fears of insecurity and following your heart when your head tells you the opposite. Kaylee is easy to relate to in this story and some of my favorite scenes involved her with the ever ominous grim reaper, Tod. His quick witted, dark humor is hilarious and he helps Kaylee open her eyes to things she might have otherwise been apt to overlook. Vincent's Soul Screamers series is a fresh new twist in paranormal romance and a definite must-read.

Return to Paradise by Simone Elkeles

Summary:
At the conclusion of Leaving Paradise, Maggie and Caleb still had some serious unresolved issues. So, it was really exciting to hear that Simone Elkeles asked her publisher to let her continue their story in Return to Paradise. Elkeles is a definite heavy hitter in the YA romance arena and she does not disappoint in her latest novel.
Maggie was the victim of a hit-and-run, Caleb went to jail for it. They both know that's not exactly the whole story but they struggle with revealing the truth to each other and to their families. Caleb's character definitely carries this book. He is raw, rugged, and most importantly real. He tries to stay out of trouble but what can he do when it seems to follow him everywhere he goes? The last thing he expects to do is go back to Paradise but it looks like all roads are leading that way. Maggie is doing a half-hearted job trying to move on after Caleb left her. It's obvious that what she feels for him is stronger than he or she can overcome. As soon as Caleb sees Maggie again it becomes evident that their chemistry is picking up right where it left off.

Review:
This is the perfect ending to their story and I was totally satisfied as I turned the last page. As for me, I will read anything that Elkeles puts out. Her characters are engaging and unpredictable in the very best ways!

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater

Summary:
The love that developed between Sam and Grace made us shiver in the first book and Stiefvater follows up with an equally beautiful story in Linger. Sam is no longer a wolf; he doesn't have to fear the cold any longer. While Sam and Grace wonder at what it means to plan past the summer their relationship takes on deeper meaning for the both of them. Cole is a new wolf; he doesn’t want to be human anymore. Running from his checkered past, he thinks he has found the ultimate way out. Isabel is trying to understand why Cole wants the very thing that her brother died trying to reverse. As Grace and Sam learn to linger in the love that they thought would always be out of reach, fear of the unknown settles over Grace and threatens to pull them apart.

Review:
The long wait for the next book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series was worth every minute. We see Sam’s sweet, endearing character adjusting to his future and you just fall in love with him all over again. Grace is also transforming herself as they discover their newly unfolded fate and all the implications of what Sam's cure means for them. Cole’s character is brutally honest, but his relationship with Isabel sends sparks flying from the very start. Isabel’s chapters were an exceptionally entertaining addition to the narrative. Her cutting edge nature balances out his frightening self despair. Days after finishing this one, the story is still lingering on my mind.

Nora may be losing her mind. She is seeing flashes of terrifying images and there is a sinister stranger following her. All the while, Patch is showing up at all the wrong times and Nora doesn’t know whether he can be trusted or not. From the moment they are paired up at school, Nora has a feeling he is going to be trouble. "His black eyes sliced into me, and the corners of his mouth tilted up. My heart fumbled a beat and in that pause, a feeling of gloomy darkness seemed to slide like a shadow over me. It vanished in an instant, but I was still staring at him. His smile wasn’t friendly. It was a smile that spelled trouble. With a promise."

Review:
In Hush, Hush the twisted history of fallen angels entwines Nora in a battle with immortals. This is the beginning of a captivating series by Fitzpatrick. The sequel, Crescendo, will be released later this year.

Like usual, Stevie Rae is keeping too many secrets and you just never know if she can be trusted. Summary:
In Lisa McMann’s third book of the Wake trilogy, Gone, Janie has to face her future and the consequences of being a dream walker. She’ll have to make the hardest choice of her life. “Janie imagines life without people. Without him. Broken heart, loneliness, but able to see, to feel. To live. To be, in peace. Not always looking over her shoulder for the next dream attack. And she imagines life with him. Blind, gnarled, but loved…”

Review:
As in Wake and Fade, McMann writes with brutal honesty about living in less than ideal households. Janie’s strong character shines as she deals with her alcoholic mother, her intense relationship with Cabel, and the ability to drop into dreams. The ending of this series is everything it should be, fans will not be disappointed.
